Instead I had a long chat with the producer about the issues and she took lots of notes so that she could brief the presenters about the issues. It's frustrating that these ch...emical substances are being sold under the name of "henna" and I wanted to make sure they made a distinction between this and natural henna.
It's great that there is awareness being raised of the risks of using "black henna". Unfortunately however, the episode makes out that "black henna" is only an issue in other countries, when in fact there are businesses using it here in the UK. That's why it's important to always use a henna artist that knows exactly what has gone into their paste.
Natural henna, which is made from the henna plant, has been used safely for centuries. The stain is orange - dark brown. It's is never black. There is no such thing as "black henna", it's just chemicals wrongly sold under the name of henna.
The episode is available on ITV player and the feature is on at 00.41 minutes in.
